Leading Tech Companies Unveil Alliance to Fight Scammers

Digital companies from the dating app, financial services, social media, and cryptocurrency sectors revealed a new alliance on Tuesday called Tech Against Scams to aid in the fight against financial scams and internet fraud that target consumers in various industries.

Coinbase, Match Group (parent company of Tinder and Hinge), Meta, Kraken, Ripple, Gemini, and the Global Anti-Scam Organization are prominent players in Tech Against Scams.

This coalition will serve as a focal point for member organizations to work together to combat the technologies that scammers employ, protect and educate consumers, and stop the financial scam industry from rapidly evolving.

The endeavor will involve the dissemination of optimal methodologies, threat assessments, and more vital data to protect consumers from cybercrimes, including romance and cryptocurrency frauds akin to “pig butchering.”

The program expands on a special partnership that Match Group, Coinbase, and Meta started last summer to combat cross-platform dangers like pig slaughtering. Seeing the necessity for further industry cooperation, these businesses have now increased the number of partners in their endeavors.

The alliance will take advantage of each company’s distinct advantages to better spot new scam trends, exchange practical tactics, and promote international user protection through group action.

Guy Rosen, Chief Information Security Officer at Meta, said, “Scammers and the organized criminal groups behind pig butchering schemes target people across many internet services, making it hard for any one company to see the full picture of malicious activity and counting on each of us working in silos.”

Philip Martin, Coinbase’s Chief Security Officer, emphasizes the need for business leaders to unite against rising fraud sophistication to ensure consumer safety online. He added, “We are dedicated to disrupting emerging online scams through collaboration, information sharing, and enhanced consumer education.”

By working together, Tech Against Scams hopes to make the internet a safer place where people are better shielded from falling for complex online fraud schemes.
