Shipping firm manager loses ₹9L in crypto currency fraud – Times of India


Mumbai: A finance manager with a shipping company lodged a police complaint after being cheated of Rs 9 lakh by an individual who offered to purchase cryptocurrency from him. While the complainant transferred the cryptocurrency to the accused, he never got paid for it. Bangur Nagar police have registered an FIR and are probing the matter further.The complainant told the police that he has been trading in cryptocurrency since 2020 and has an account with a cryptocurrency exchange. On Dec 27, 2021, he purchased a cryptocurrency, Tether, for Rs 8.78 lakh. As time passed, the value of the cryptocurrency increased to Rs 9 lakh. The complainant then decided to sell it. He put up a post on the cryptocurrency exchange about his intention to sell. He was contacted by one Vaibhav Sumra online, and they exchanged phone numbers.Sumra asked the complainant to transfer the cryptocurrency to the former’s crypto wallet and promised to pay the money by bank transfer. The complainant trusted him and transferred the cryptocurrency but never received any money, according to the complaint. Sumra either evaded the complainant’s calls or claimed to be facing financial difficulties. The complainant eventually approached the police with a complaint , and an FIR was registered by the Bangur Nagar police on July 20.
